Drive optimal, integrated and sustainable cancer care

Victoria is committed to using insights from data and research to drive high-quality cancer services.

Pillar 3 of the Victorian Cancer Plan states (on p 38 of the PDF) that patients managed by a multidisciplinary cancer care team experience better health outcomes, higher satisfaction with care, and improved mental wellbeing. Pillar 5 (p 49 of the PDF), meanwhile, focuses on ‘System design and delivery driven by research, data and intelligence’ – including improving understanding of cancer outcomes through expanded linked data.

The VICS are supporting these goals in the Victorian Cancer Plan by helping to drive optimal, integrated, and sustainable cancer care at both statewide and local levels. Our initiatives under this priority span 2 action areas:

  • Deliver and monitor optimal care pathway (OCP) adherence, multidisciplinary meeting (MDM) quality and diagnostic timeliness
  • Align workforce development to support priority implementation initiatives.

The VICS are collaborating closely with clinicians to design and implement practical tools and processes that strengthen multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs) across Victoria.

Our first consultation on endometrial cancer produced an action register of ways to address unwarranted variations in care and outcomes across Victoria.
