Strengthen access to equitable, timely and consumer-centred cancer care
– focused on priority populations
The Victorian Cancer Plan commits the state to achieving health equity across the cancer system.
Pillar 3 of the Victorian Cancer Plan 2020–2024 (p. 37 of the PDF) focuses on ‘Optimal access and care across the cancer pathway’, including equitable access to prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, supportive care, and palliative care.
Current VICS action areas to support this part of the Victorian Cancer Plan include:
- Develop models to understand people’s experiences and outcomes of cancer care
- Strengthen understanding of priority populations’ barriers and enablers of optimal cancer care, codesign improvements to care
- Improve timely and equitable access to hospital-based diagnostic services and facilitate access to existing screening and prevention strategies
- Improve adult and paediatric shared care coordination across Victoria, to enable care closer to home where safe to do so.
