CHRH - Moving through Cancer Project

Supported by a GICS grant, this projects' aim was to develop a multidisciplinary cancer support program for cancer patients living in the Hepburn Shire.

Central Highlands Rural Health (CHRH) developed a multidisciplinary support program to support their local community throughout the entire oncology treatment process from initial diagnosis, preparation for treatment, during treatment and into survivorship.

GICS awarded a Service Improvement Grant to Central Highlands Rural Health to undertake this project.

An eight-week program ‘Moving through Cancer’ was piloted in late 2023 and was run successfully until August 2024. The program included personalised exercise programs and cancer education, such as managing fatigue, emotional wellness and nutrition.

An evaluation of the program has been undertaken to ensure its sustainability so it may continue providing support close to home and minimise the need for excessive travel. CHRH have introduced a number of solutions to ensure the success of the program long term.

This project was completed in October 2024 and the Final Report is available below.
