Side effects of chemotherapy for children
This resource has been developed by PICS, Victoria’s Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service.
Chemotherapy affects cells in the body that grow quickly such as cancer cells. There are other cells in the body that also grow quickly, such as in bone marrow, the digestive system, hair, and the reproductive system. Side effects occur when these quickly growing, healthy cells are damaged by chemotherapy.
