Optimal care pathway for adolescents and young adults with cancer

This resource has been developed by PICS, Victoria’s Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service.

The optimal care pathway (OCP) below complements the existing cancer-specific OCPs to ensure current, emerging, and future developmentally significant health issues in adolescents and young adults (AYA) affected by cancer are addressed in conjunction with their cancer treatment.

This pathway reminds health professionals of their responsibility to consider a young person with cancer not just in the context of their disease, but equally in the context of their life stage. It may also support health services by informing service delivery that is responsive to the needs of young people and their support networks.
