Lung Cancer

Lung cancer begins when abnormal cells grow and multiply in an uncontrolled way in one or both lungs. Cancer that starts in the lungs is known as primary lung cancer. It can spread to other parts of the body such as the lymph nodes, brain, adrenal glands, liver and bones.

There are many different types of lung cancer. Initial tests to assist with diagnosis may include a chest x-ray and CT scan. Your doctor will provide you with more information on the wide range of additional tests required for your individual situation.

Treatment for lung cancer may cause side effects. The severity and duration of side effects varies from person to person. Fortunately, there are many ways to reduce or manage side effects. In the first instance, it is important to discuss side effects with your treating team who will be able to provide the best advice on management.
