Symptom and Urgent Review Clinic Evaluation (SURE) Framework

Symptom and Urgent Review Clinic Evaluation (SURE) Framework

This project was supported by a NEMICS service improvement grant.

The SURE study led by Austin Health aimed to develop a set of quality indicators for the Symptom and Urgent Review Clinic (SURC) model of care that can be implemented across all SURCs in Victoria. It also aimed to undertake a multi-site evaluation of the SURC model across seven Victorian healthcare organisations.

Impact

The project identified key quality indicators through healthcare professional input and Delphi surveys, and highlighted gaps in patient and caregiver awareness of SURCs. It revealed challenges in accessing timely care outside business hours and opportunities to improve communication and caregiver involvement in SURC promotion.

Outcome

A multi-site evaluation across seven Victorian health services informed the development of an evaluation and monitoring framework for SURCs. This framework aims to support ongoing quality improvement to ensure SURCs remain responsive to patient and health service needs, with further work planned to create practical evaluation tools.
