Loddon Mallee Oncology Special Interest Group (LMOSIG)
Purpose
To foster professional development, networking, and peer support for health professionals who share a special interest in oncology.
What we are doing
The Loddon Mallee Oncology Special Interest Group (LMOSIG) is jointly delivered by LMICS and allied health specialists from Bendigo Health’s John Lindell Rehabilitation Unit. LMICS provides a secretariat function. The group meets bi-monthly and comprises 130 members across the Loddon Mallee region.
Outputs
Professional development topics led by 4 health services have included use of specific physiotherapy techniques; services available for people living with blood cancer; best practice in palliative care; overview of the role of radiotherapy; cancer-related sarcopenia and malnutrition; and an overview of the Bendigo Cancer and Wellness Centre.
Impacts
Members indicated via a recent annual survey that they value LMOSIG for peer learning and networking. It can also be a forum for LMICS to better understand barriers and enablers for allied health professionals providing care and support to patients with cancer.
