Digitising the Caring Through Touch program

A NEMICS service improvement grant supported work to digitise Austin Health’s ‘Caring Through Touch’ program. A diverse group of consumers was engaged in the development of a video showing safe massage techniques to provide comfort and support to a loved one with cancer.

Impacts

This initiative has improved access to safe oncology massage to manage supportive care needs. Patients and carers who participated in evaluation of the video described its benefit in supporting their connection.

Carers’ confidence increased significantly after viewing the video, aligning with patients’ already positive expectations. Both groups reported improved connection through the intervention. The resource has garnered interest from major cancer and palliative care organisations.

Outcome

The project successfully produced a high-quality, consumer-driven educational Oncology Massage Instructional video now implemented by key stakeholders.
