Development of a comprehensive cancer rehabilitation (CaRe) training program

With support from a NEMICS service improvement grant, Eastern Health has developed a comprehensive care rehabilitation training program to increase the knowledge, skills and confidence of allied health professionals working in cancer rehabilitation.

Twenty allied health professionals across the NEMICS region were upskilled, and a training package was developed, including online education resources. Ongoing workshops will be held to continue to support allied health working in cancer rehabilitation.

Impact

The training program resulted in increased confidence for allied health working with cancer survivors, interacting with clinicians, and delivering cancer rehabilitation. Participants were also able to apply the knowledge and skills gained within 3 months, especially the communication skills.
