Gippsland Regional Cancer Services Plan

In 2022, Gippsland Cancer Care Centre, in collaboration with Gippsland Health Service Partnership and Gippsland Regional Integrated Cancer Service, was funded by the Victorian Department of Health to develop a regional Cancer Services Plan (the Plan) in line with local population needs and the objectives set out in the Victorian Cancer Plan 2020–2024.

The Plan seeks to strengthen Gippsland’s cancer services to ensure local people diagnosed with cancer have access to services that are focused on:

  • providing an integrated, person-centred approach to cancer care
  • optimising the consumer experience
  • continuously improving the quality of care.

The Plan promotes and supports service development and continuous improvement that:

  • provides optimal cancer care aligned with optimal care pathways
  • uses of multidisciplinary teams to deliver evidence-based care
  • strengthens referral pathways and data sharing capability to streamline care coordination for patients
  • enhances the use of technology to improve patient care including telehealth, tele-trials, multidisciplinary team communication, and data registries.

The Plan sets out strategic objectives for the next five to ten years that will ensure Gippsland residents have greater access to care as close to home as possible.  It describes four key categories and ten development areas for service delivery improvement.
