Become a Peer Support Volunteer in Geelong with Counterpart

Counterpart is expanding its vital support network to Geelong and seeking Peer Support Volunteers.

Counterpart, a service of Women’s Health Victoria, provides free and confidential peer support, information, and health and wellbeing events for women living with cancer in Victoria.

Counterpart is establishing a peer support hub in Geelong to make it easier for local women affected by cancer to access emotional and practical support. This expansion will allow more women to connect with trained volunteers closer to home.

Why volunteer?

As a Peer Support Volunteer, you can:

  • Help other women affected by cancer.
  • Lend a listening ear.
  • Provide emotional and practical support.

Volunteers play a vital role in empowering women to make informed decisions about their treatment and care.

What’s involved?

  • Volunteer for at least one 5-hour shift each month (either from home, our Melbourne Resource Centre, or the new Geelong peer support hub) on a Monday, Wednesday, or Thursday.

  • Complete an online, self-paced training course and mentoring with experienced Peer Support Volunteers.
  • Attend an in-person orientation day in Melbourne on 3 June or Geelong on 16 June.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Previous cancer diagnosis and treatment (ideally at least one year ago).
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Aged between 18 and 80 years.
