ACCESS Program progress in 2023
The Accessing Cancer Care Equitably using Support Services (ACCESS) Program is a collaboration between Cancer Council Victoria and the VICS to improve access to supportive care for all Victorians affected by cancer.
In 2023, cancer support referrals to Cancer Council Victoria increased steadily:
- total connections to the 13 11 20 cancer support line increased by 63%
- online referrals from health professionals increased by 74%
(representing 794 more cancer patients accessing supportive care) - referrals for emotional support (nurse counselling and psycho-oncology) increased by 97%
- referrals for financial counselling increased by 50%
- the legal support program has received 165 referrals since it opened in July 2023.
