In partnership with our member health services and clinicians, WCMICS is dedicated to improving patient outcomes and fostering a culture of innovation.
Our primary purpose is to bring about system change within the cancer sector by providing expertise in the development and delivery of quality improvement and service redesign initiatives.
Our dedicated project leads play a pivotal role in supporting frontline staff. They help teams identify opportunities for improvement, navigate improvement methodologies, and provide ongoing guidance to ensure sustained success. From process mapping to outcome monitoring, we work alongside clinicians to turn challenges into opportunities.

Building the capability to improve cancer care
Creating meaningful and lasting improvements in cancer care requires more than great ideas, it requires people with the confidence, skills and support to lead change.
The WCMICS Workforce Quality Improvement Skills Program has been designed to build improvement capability across our member health services. Through a connected suite of learning, mentoring and funding opportunities, we support clinicians, managers and improvement leaders to develop practical skills, apply them in real-world settings and deliver sustainable improvements for people affected by cancer.

Together, SPARKS Masterclasses, IGNITE and the Grants Program create an integrated capability pathway that supports individuals, teams and organisations to strengthen quality improvement capability, lead meaningful change and improve outcomes for people affected by cancer.

Our Masterclass Series delivers targeted workshops that focus on building essential skills in improvement science, project management, and leadership. These sessions provide practical knowledge to tackle real-world healthcare challenges effectively.
Applications for 2026/2027 are now closed.
This 9-month placement offers hands-on coaching, personalised support, and real-world application. Participants gain the confidence and capability to transform innovative ideas into impactful solutions.
