Best practice guidance for procedural support for patients and families undergoing paediatric radiation therapy treatment in Victoria
This resource has been developed by PICS, Victoria’s Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service.
This document presents best practice approaches for child and family-centred procedural assessment, preparation, and support. Its purpose is to promote equitable access to evidence-based procedural support by standardising care across the paediatric oncology network in Victoria, including specific considerations for patients undergoing Radiation Therapy (RT).
The document provides guidance on the three key components of best practice procedural support, including procedural pain management:
- Engagement and assessment
- Individualised preparation and planning
- Active procedural support and coaching.
In addition, the final section offers guidance on general staff Education and Training, aimed at enhancing existing capabilities and building confidence in delivering procedural support.
