High-energy diet for infants receiving treatment for cancer

This resource has been developed by PICS, Victoria’s Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service.

An infant or baby being treated for cancer may needs a high-energy diet if:

  • their condition or the treatment they are on requires a higher energy intake than other infants their age
  • they have or had a poor appetite
  • they have problems with slow growth or weight loss due to side effects of treatment
  • they need to gain or ‘catch up’ adequate weight.

The leaflet below contains tips for parents, carers, and families to increase the energy content of food and drink for their infant or baby.
