Is it cancer? A guide to early recognition in children (e-learning module)

This resource has been developed by PICS, Victoria’s Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service.

As part of our professional development and education resources for health professionals, PICS has developed a series of e-learning modules with input from staff from The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, Monash Children’s Hospital, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

This module is Is it cancer? A guide to early recognition in children. It will help learners to:

  • Understand the impact a delayed time to diagnosis may have in some diagnoses
  • Describe some of paediatric populations that are at higher risk of developing cancer
  • List the presenting red flag signs and symptoms in children that may indicate a diagnosis of cancer
  • Apply and interpret the initial workup to support a differential diagnosis
  • Describe some evidence-based examples of quality activities to improve time to diagnosis.

The module is freely available, and hosted on The Royal Children’s Hospital Learning Hero education platform. An account will need to be created in order to complete this course.
