Malnutrition in Victorian Cancer Services – Point Prevalence Study 2026

WCMICS is supporting the Malnutrition in Victorian Cancer Services (MVCS) Point Prevalence Study, a biennial benchmarking initiative examining malnutrition among people receiving cancer care across Victorian health services.

The 2026 study will assess the prevalence of malnutrition and malnutrition risk, sarcopenia and food insecurity among adult cancer patients receiving inpatient, chemotherapy and radiotherapy care. It will also examine 30-day outcomes, including length of stay, readmission and patient status.

The study builds on more than a decade of point prevalence data, providing an ongoing picture of nutrition-related needs across Victorian cancer services. Previous studies have highlighted improvements in malnutrition prevalence while also identifying ongoing gaps in the identification and management of malnutrition.

WCMICS is supporting the 2026 study to strengthen statewide benchmarking, identify opportunities for local improvement and support continued efforts to improve nutrition care and outcomes for people with cancer.
