Strengthening Partnerships of Metro Regional Gynaecological Oncology Care

Supported through the HRICS 2026 MK Memorial Grants Program, this project strengthened partnerships between Northeast Health Wangaratta and Mercy Hospital for Women Melbourne, to improve care coordination for women with gynaecological cancer. Through stakeholder engagement, patient journey mapping and review of referral pathways, the project identified opportunities to improve communication, referral processes and access to local supportive care services. A key output was the development of recommendations to support a coordinated regional-metropolitan model of care, including strengthened referral pathways, enhanced multidisciplinary collaboration and improved patient information. Early outcomes included increased clinician awareness of the NHW Gynaecological Cancer Nursing Service, stronger collaboration between NHW and Mercy Hospital for Women, and increased direct referrals to the service.
