New Virtual Tours Support Gippsland Patients Through Their Cancer Care Journey
GRICS, in collaboration with Latrobe Regional Health, Bayside Health and videographer Sam Martin from Martin Productions, has developed a series of virtual tours designed to help cancer patients and their carers better understand what to expect throughout their treatment journey.
Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, with many patients facing uncertainty about appointments, treatment, support services and what comes next. These new videos provide clear, accessible information about local cancer services, helping patients feel informed, prepared and more confident before their first appointment.
The series offers behind-the-scenes tours and explanations of key services within the Gippsland Cancer Care Centre, including Radiation Oncology, the Chemotherapy Day Unit, Gippsland Rotary Centenary House accommodation and the role of the Medical Physicist. Patients can see treatment environments before they attend, meet members of the multidisciplinary team and learn about the steps involved from referral through to treatment, recovery and follow-up care.
The videos also highlight the broad range of support available locally, including nursing, allied health, Aboriginal health support and survivorship services, reinforcing the high-quality cancer care available close to home. By improving understanding of local services and reducing uncertainty, the virtual tours aim to enhance the patient experience, support wellbeing and build confidence in accessing cancer treatment within Gippsland. We thank the services, staff and patients involved in the creation of these valuable resources.
