Improving Access to Respiratory Diagnostic Assessment for Rural and Remote Patients

Supported through the HRICS 2026 MK Memorial Grants Program, this project implemented a Lung Health Screening Program through the procurement of a spirometer, delivery of staff training, development of clinical guidelines, and integration of software to support patient monitoring and recall. The project has strengthened workforce capability, improved practice efficiencies, and enhanced preventative care mechanisms to support earlier detection of lung disease. As a result, practice nurses now are trained in performing lung function testing, and the program has been introduced and promoted across the local community catchment, enabling respiratory diagnostic assessments to be provided closer to home and supporting alignment with the National Lung Cancer Screening Program.
