VICS Optimal Care Summits hepatocellular carcinoma consultation 2026–27
Our next VICS Optimal Care Summits consultation will investigate variations in care and outcomes for Victorians affected by hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer).
This is the program’s first consultation focusing on a liver cancer. The most common type of primary liver cancer in adults is hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which starts in the hepatocytes, the main type of liver cell. In Australia, more than 3000 people are diagnosed with primary liver cancer each year. That rate has almost doubled since 2002 – possibly due to increasing rates of obesity, type 2 diabetes, hepatitis B and C infections, drinking too much alcohol, and an ageing population (see Cancer Council Victoria website).
Stakeholder registration
We will engage with multidisciplinary clinicians across Victoria to convene an expert advisory group, carry out online surveys, prioritise unwarranted variations in care and outcomes, and prioritise improvement activities. You can participate in whichever aspects of the consultation suit you.
