Gippsland Palliative Care - Transition to Specialty Practice
The Transition to Specialty Practice (TSP) program has been established in Gippsland for five years now, delivered through a partnership between the Gippsland Regional Palliative Care Consortium, Palliative Care South East, and the Australian College of Nursing.
The aim of this is to support nurses to undertake recognised education in a supportive environment with the hope they will gain a specialist qualification.
West Gippsland Healthcare Group was successful in a GRICS service improvement grant which enabled 11 Gippsland nurses to undertake a postgraduate subject “Principles of Palliative Care” as a part of the TSP workshops.
Both Gippsland Palliative Care Consortium and Palliative Care South East worked together to bring these workshops together, with both virtual and in person options.
Feedback from the sessions was resoundingly positive with a few areas to build on for next time. Overall, the community will benefit from the upskilling of these palliative care nurses.
