Conquering Skin Cancer
In 2025, GRICS alongside the Gippsland Region Public Health Unit hosted 3 events across South Gippsland and Bass Coast screening the Conquering Skin Cancer film.
The film aims to:
- Increase awareness of the dangers of UV exposure, particularly during periods of high UV
- Reinforce the importance of sun-safe behaviours, such as using sunscreen, wearing protective clothing, and seeking shade
- Encourage people of all ages to be proactive about skin health, including regular self-checks
- Promote early action by getting suspicious moles or skin changes checked by a health professional
- Spark conversation, reflection, and practical action, making it well suited to group screenings followed by discussion or education activities.
These events allowed the community to ask burning questions about skin cancer prevention and early detection, led by local clinicians. Based on the feedback from these events, it was evident that local people wanted to continue this messaging in their own professional and personal networks. As such, we continued this collaborative project in 2026 with an extended license that allows locals to host a screening event with shortened, targeted versions of the film available.
We are pleased to announce that anyone can request access to these videos and host a session to spread awareness across school groups, community groups, sporting clubs, workplaces, etc. It’s as simple as emailing grics@lrh.com.au to get started. As part of this project, we are keen to understand the impacts of this film, who is attending the events and your feedback. As such, we ask that a short evaluation survey be completed after the event and returned to us at GRICS.
