A Day of Connection, Movement and Mindfulness for Women Experiencing Cancer

GRICS were privileged to collaborate with Counterpart to host a wellbeing event for local women experiencing cancer.

The day promoted connection, movement and creativity amongst attendees.

The women who attended were offered a safe and supportive space to explore ways of building personal support networks and to learn more about the services available within the local community. The event was not only informative but deeply nurturing, allowing participants to reflect, connect with others on similar journeys, and engage in activities designed to promote wellbeing during and beyond treatment.

Philip Jamieson, Exercise Physiologist from Latrobe Community Health Service, shared practical, gentle movement techniques aimed at improving balance and strength during cancer treatment. These exercises, tailored to meet the needs of women at various stages of their cancer journey, were empowering and accessible.

Participants also had the opportunity to experience a creative mindfulness session with Marianne Ruff, whose warm and thoughtful guidance provided moments of calm, reflection, and expression. The session was particularly well received, with many attendees commenting on how powerful it was to engage creatively as a way to process their experiences.

Mending Casts, the Thursday Girls, and the Leukaemia Foundation each shared insights into the remarkable work they do to support women living with cancer. Their presence underscored the importance of community, and their contributions offered valuable information and inspiration to those in attendance.

Events like this remind us of the strength that exists when women come together in solidarity, and the importance of ongoing community-led support for those impacted by cancer.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who participated, supported, or shared their knowledge at this special event. Together, we continue to create spaces that foster hope, healing, and connection.
