SMICS welcomes new Co-Clinical Directors

Southern Melbourne Integrated Cancer Services (SMICS) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Co-Clinical Directors, Associate Professor Michelle White and Dr Pasquale Fedele.

Both A/Prof White and Dr Fedele are experienced clinicians currently working in Melbourne’s south-east and will bring with them a wealth of expertise to their new roles at SMICS.

A/Prof Michelle White is a medical oncologist at both Monash Health and Cabrini, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Monash University. Michelle specialises in breast cancer and is the clinical lead of breast cancer clinical service and research at Monash Health. She also runs a private practice through Cabrini Health. She is involved in clinical service innovation, has played a major role in developing multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs) for patients with advanced breast cancer, and has been involved in advancing nurse-led clinics. Michelle is heavily involved in education and has the role of Director of Physician Training at Moorabbin Hospital.

Dr Pasquale Fedele is a clinical haematologist at Monash Health and an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University. Dr Fedele brings a strong track record of leadership in service development and quality improvement. He is the clinical lead for adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer and survivorship care, chairs the multidisciplinary AYA Working Group at Monash Health, and has led the development of a coordinated, evidence-based and uniform approach for AYAs with a cancer diagnosis. Pasquale has also established the Monash Haematology Wellness & Survivorship Clinic – aiming to prevent, identify and manage late effects of cancer therapy with a hybrid face-to-face/telehealth model of care.

Monash Health CEO and Chair of the SMICS Governance Board Professor Eugine Yafele said, ‘We are delighted to have Michelle and Pasquale join SMICS. Their combined experience and commitment to excellence in cancer care will be invaluable as we continue improving patient outcomes across our region.’

Professor Yafele also thanked the outgoing Co-Clinical Directors, Associate Professor Zee Wan Wong of Monash Health and Associate Professor Andrew Hayden from Alfred Health, for their significant contributions.

‘On behalf of the SMICS Governance Board, I sincerely thank Zee Wan and Andrew for their dedication and leadership over the past seven years. With your help, our cancer network has advanced cancer care and made a real difference in patient outcomes and community wellbeing.”

A/Prof White and Dr Fedele began their roles at SMICS on 5 August 2025.
