VICS Care of the Older Person with Cancer Toolkit 4th Edition now available

The 4th edition of the VICS Care of the Older Person with Cancer Toolkit is now available. This practical resource supports oncologists, geriatricians, cancer care coordinators, nurse practitioners, allied health professionals and healthcare leaders to deliver optimal care for older people with cancer.

First developed in 2022 by Hume Regional Integrated Cancer Service (HRICS) and the Southern Melbourne Integrated Cancer Service (SMICS) on behalf of the Victorian Integrated Cancer Services, the toolkit has been regularly reviewed to ensure it reflects current best practice and the latest recommendations for supporting older people throughout their cancer journey.

The latest edition includes updated resources to support implementation of the Optimal Care Pathway for Older People with Cancer [PDF], along with new examples of sustainable service models. The toolkit also features expanded patient and carer resources, enhanced implementation guidance, and a downloadable geriatric assessment checklist to support comprehensive, high-quality care.

These updates are designed to help health services deliver more tailored, coordinated and high-quality care for older people with cancer.
