HRICS MK Program Showcase celebrating local innovation in cancer care across the Hume region
More than 50 health professionals and stakeholders from across the Hume region came together on 30 July to celebrate the achievements of the second year of the Michael Kalimnios (MK) Memorial Grants Program at the 2026 Project Showcase.
The showcase brought together a diverse audience, from health service executives and leaders, lived and living experience partners, through to clinicians, and project teams, to share the outcomes, learnings and impact of locally led service improvement projects.
The 2026 projects demonstrate the breadth of innovation taking place across the region, with projects focused on improving access to cancer care, strengthening workforce capability, enhancing clinical quality and safety, supporting survivorship, and developing more coordinated and person-centred care.
Projects showcased included initiatives to improve colonoscopy quality monitoring, respiratory diagnostics, nutrition and swallowing support, gynaecological cancer nursing and cancer survivorship. Other projects focused on workforce education and simulation, chemotherapy safety, culturally safe end-of-life planning for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and strengthening care for people with advanced cancer living in residential aged care.
Together, the projects demonstrate the impact of supporting locally identified ideas and empowering health professionals to lead improvements within their services. The Showcase provided an opportunity to celebrate achievements, share learnings and strengthen connections across the region.
