Conquering Skin Cancer Documentary Screenings across Gippsland

GRICS is proud to collaborate with the Gippsland Region Public Health Unit and Bass Coast Health to deliver community screenings of the powerful documentary Conquering Skin Cancer.

In 2025, three screening events were held across South Gippsland and Bass Coast, reaching a total of 105 community members. Each session included a panel discussion led by local clinicians, providing an opportunity for attendees to ask questions about skin cancer prevention, early detection and available local services.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with most rating the events as excellent and reporting increased understanding of skin cancer. The majority also indicated they felt motivated to take action following the screenings, including booking skin checks, improving sun safe behaviours and sharing information within their networks. Participants highlighted the value of hearing both expert insights and lived experiences, with many expressing interest in seeing the film shared more broadly across schools, workplaces, sporting clubs and community groups.

This strong community response has reinforced the importance of continuing this work, supporting increased awareness, early detection and prevention of skin cancer across Gippsland.
