BSWRICS Abstract Acceptance at MASCC/ISOO 2026 Annual Meeting

We are pleased to announce that an abstract submitted by Barwon South Western Regional Integrated Cancer Services in partnership with St John of God Warrnambool, Icon Cancer Care Centre Warrnambool and Peter’s Project Foundation has been accepted as an oral presentation at the upcoming MASCC/ISOO 2026 Annual Meeting.

The abstract, ‘Underutilisation of Exercise Oncology in Regional Victoria: A Retrospective Analysis of Rehabilitation Uptake’, highlights significant gaps in access to evidence based exercise supports for people undergoing cancer treatment in the South West region of Victoria.

Drawing on data from five local health services, the study found that fewer than six per cent of patients accessed oncology exercise or rehabilitation programs, despite strong evidence that exercise can improve treatment tolerance, recovery, and long term outcomes.

The findings underscore the need to strengthen referral pathways, improve awareness, and embed exercise as a standard component of cancer care for regional communities.

For further information, please contact the principal investigators of the study, either Alicia Boyd (St John of God Warrnambool Hospital) or Dr Nathalie Davis (BSWRICS).
